I just read this as a Facebook status update, and judging by the comments on it, the guy is deadly serious:

"(name) is at a funeral ceremony."

What the fuck is wrong with people? You're updating your Facebook DURING A FUNERAL CEREMONY?! Jesus.

Idiocracy becomes more accurate with every passing day.

Could be worse. They could have Twittered it.

Also, I just watched "Idiocracy" again last night. I need to legally change my name to Upgrayedd.

How is that worse? Posting to Facebook is much more involved!

As someone who's gone to four funerals (five, if you count the one we had for Choc in the backyard) since April this year, that is horrible, tacky and disrespectful to the deceased and their loved ones.

No, they're just a horrible situation to be in, that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I don't think a little respect for the deceased's family would be asking too much.

i just think that a lot is being surmised here. the update may have been made before the service started. i don't see anything wrong with letting your friends know that you are not reachable. indeed that would have been more respectable.

If you're about to go in, I can see how that is acceptable - you are not exactly thinking clearly if you were at all close to the person.

However, they could also do what I did, and leave my phone in the car. And I was a PA. My manager cracked the shits at me for not answering the phone, and she KNEW I wasn't at work because of the funeral.

Maybe he's dyslexic? At a fun real ceremony?

Yeah I dunno... :\

oh i dunno, i think ur being a little harsh. i imagine that the post was made before the ceremony started. this way his friends know where he is and why he might not be reachable. it's very simple to update facebook from your mobile now (free access on many uk networks). if the person wasn't really that close to the deceased and/or particularly nerdy then i can see that happening.
